FASTag: New Fastag will have to be made, Paytm will not work

The Indian government has made it mandatory for all vehicles to have a FASTag for toll payment on national highways. This move is aimed at reducing traffic congestion and promoting the use of RFID technology for seamless toll collection. However, there have been some recent updates regarding the use of FASTags that all vehicle owners should be aware of.

New FASTag Required

If you already have a FASTag, you may need to get a new one. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has announced that all FASTags issued by banks that are not part of the NETC (National Electronic Toll Collection) program will become inactive from January 1, 2021. This means that if you have a FASTag issued by a bank that is not on the list of NETC banks, you will need to get a new FASTag from a NETC bank to continue using it for toll payments.

Paytm Will Not Work

Paytm, one of the most popular digital payment platforms in India, will no longer be accepted for FASTag payments. This is because Paytm is not a NETC bank and therefore, its FASTags will become inactive from January 1, 2021. This move has caused some inconvenience for Paytm users who have been using the platform for toll payments. However, they can easily switch to a NETC bank and get a new FASTag to continue using the service.FASTag: New Fastag will have to be made, Paytm will not work

Banks Included in the List

The list of NETC banks includes major public and private sector banks such as ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, Axis Bank, State Bank of India, and Punjab National Bank. These banks have been authorized by the NHAI to issue FASTags and are fully integrated with the NETC program. This means that their FASTags will continue to work seamlessly for toll payments even after January 1, 2021.

Benefits of FASTag

FASTag is a prepaid tag that uses RFID technology to enable automatic toll payments. It is affixed on the windscreen of a vehicle and is linked to a prepaid account from which the toll amount is deducted. This eliminates the need for cash transactions at toll plazas, reducing traffic congestion and saving time for commuters. Additionally, FASTag users can avail a cashback of 2.5% on all toll payments made using the tag.

How to Get a FASTag

Getting a FASTag is a simple and hassle-free process. You can visit any of the NETC banks or their authorized Point-of-Sale (POS) locations to get a FASTag. You will need to provide your vehicle registration certificate (RC) and a valid ID proof for the same. The tag can also be purchased online through the bank’s website or the NHAI’s FASTag portal.

The use of FASTag has been made mandatory for all vehicles to promote the use of digital payments and reduce traffic congestion at toll plazas. With the recent updates, vehicle owners need to ensure that they have a FASTag from a NETC bank to continue using the service. This will not only make toll payments more convenient but also contribute to a more efficient and seamless travel experience on national highways.
